Mark Twain's A Murder, A Mystery & A Marriage Saturday, May 24 3:00 Matinee Aaron’s Posner’s
rendition of master storyteller Mark Twain’s tall tale serves up a
foot-stomping barrel of fun for the whole family. A Murder, A
Mystery & A Marriage takes us back to Deer Lick, Missouri, 1876.
Young Mary Gray wants to tie the knot with her sweetheart, Hugh Gregory;
but if they walk down the aisle, she will be disinherited. The arrival of
a mysterious stranger followed closely by a dastardly deed complicates her
decision. Will she or won’t she? Did he or didn’t he? All will be reveled
in the end. Mix up great bluegrass sounds, side-splitting jokes, and a
dash of suspense and romance, and you have the recipe for a rollicking
good time!
The Underpants Wednesday, July 16 3:00 Matinee This goofy, yet
timeless play is comedian Steve Martin's adaptation of the German satire,
Die Hose. Complete with intrigues, sleeping potion, and an assortment of
odd characters, this is an over-the-top comedy about the chaos and
commotion caused by a simple act of fate, and a flash of a lady's
undergarments. Martin's modern version is a riotous spoof of feminism,
politics, sexism, and sex in general.
The Spitfire Grill Wednesday, July 9 3:00 Matinee Based on the 1996 film
by Lee David Zlotoff, The Spitfire Grill has found a second
home on the stage, and the musical theatre genre is definitely the right
home for it. The title refers to the name of the restaurant where a young
woman, Percy, gets a job after being released from prison. The business is
for sale, and much of the plot revolves around the plan to raffle it off
to the person who writes the best essay. The combination of charming
folksy tunes, rich harmonies and emotionally powerful ballads creates a
glowing and hauntingly beautiful evening of theatre. "A soul satisfying
... work of theatrical resourcefulness. A compelling story that flows with
grace and carries the rush of anticipation . . . The musical is freeing.
It is penetrated by honesty and it glows." - N.Y. Times Bach at Leipzig By Itamar Moses July 3, 4, 12, 18, 26, 31, , Aug. 2 Saturday, July, 26 3:00 Matinee Leipzig, Germany, 1722: Seven rival musicians vie to fill the organmaster post at Lepzig, Germany, the most prestigious post in Europe. Inspired by actual events, playwright Itamar Moses crafts an hilarious array of schemes and mayhem as each musician blackmails, bribes, and double-crosses to win the position. The
P B & J Café presents Hansel and Gretel The classic story of
Hansel and Gretel with all the excitement of the original Grimm's tale is
told gently and humorously in this delightful version. Here the witch has
become a flamboyant Fortune Teller happened upon by the children and their
father, performers in a traveling show. The age-old fairy tale comes to
life with music, delightful characters and audience participation. The
children are seated at small tables and chairs and treated to dinner
before the show in GVT's annual P B & J Café.
Route 66 In this-fast-paced
musical review, four high-octane gas station attendants take the audience
on a journey along the famous Route 66 from Chicago to L.A. They sing and
dance their way across the country to familiar '50s and '60s songs by the
Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, Woody Guthrie, Elvis and many others. Complete
with period commercials and jingles between songs, Route 66 pays tribute
to the highway that will forever be part of the American landscape and
culture. The State Fair of West Virginia features GVT's production in
August. Souvenir:
A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins "American Idol" was not
the first venue to create a cult figure out of someone singing badly. In
the 1930's a wealthy New York socialite, Florence Foster Jenkins, became
famous for her off-key singing by financing her own private opera concerts
in New York, Boston and Washington. Souvenir traces the relationship
between Jenkins and her accompanist, the composer and pianist Cosme McMoon.
McMoon begins as Jenkins' embarrassed accompanist, but he grows into a
reluctant admirer and eventually a friend. This hilarious and poignant
story of a true musical novelty "makes hilarious and deeply touching
theater out of something inherently ridiculous. A loony triumph." - New

To Kill a Mockingbird To Kill a
Mockingbird is the coming of age story of Jean Louise "Scout"
Finch. Told through the eyes of the adult Scout, this simple story of her
childhood compels us to look into our own hearts as it raises questions
about prejudice and injustice. A classic in every sense of the word, the
play's message is just as relevant today as it was in when it was first
published in the height of the Civil Rights' Movement in 1960. GVT
presents weekend performances in the evening for general audiences and
school matinees daily for area students. Christmas Rep December 5 - 22
